Membership
The St. John’s Home for Children’s Auxiliary is comprised of alumni, families (past and present), and friends of the St. John’s Home for Children. New Auxiliary members can join from near and far. You don’t have to be in Wheeling to share your ideas.
The Auxiliary’s mission is to support St. John’s Home for Children in its fundraising and friendraising efforts. Auxiliary updates are posted in our newsletters. Current members receive meeting notifications by email. The group is growing and working to compile a database so that regular mailings and/or emails can be sent out to each member on a quarterly basis.
History of Helping
Opened in 1856 as an orphanage by Bishop Richard Whelan, the first Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, and the Sisters of St. Joseph, the St. John’s/St. Vincent’s Home for Children has been home to thousands of boys and girls over the past century and a half.
